About Windows

Question list

What is a replacement window?

A true replacement window is a window that’s custom built to fit within the opening of an existing window. It’s built to fit precisely, and can be installed without disturbing the interior and exterior areas around the window.

How do I know when to replace my windows?

That’s a great question. Here are the main reasons you might want to replace your windows:

  • When your windows appear foggy.
  • When your windows are difficult to clean.
  • When your windows have air leaks and drafts.
  • When your windows don't block outside noise.
  • When your windows are difficult to open and close.
  • When your heating and cooling bills continue to rise.
  • When your windows allow dust and dirt into your home.
  • When your windows cost you time and money in maintenance.
  • When your windows do not provide adequate security for your home.

How do I know what a fair price is for new windows?

Getting estimates and quotes from licensed window experts saves you time and money because you can compare prices, quality and service with reputable companies prior to buying windows. Because we buy direct and because of the volume we do we can offer $100 to $200 less on superior windows.

What is the advantage choosing a custom replacement window over windows found in home centers?

The windows found in home centers and/or major lumberyards are typically stock sizes with little or no options. Replacement windows are custom made for each opening in your home, and you have the ability to choose among many energy saving and aesthetically appealing options. They also offer warranties.

How much household energy do leaky, energy inefficient windows use?

About 25% - according to the U.S. Department of Energy.

What is an Energy Star rated window?

The Energy Star insignia on the label means a window has met the U.S. government's standards for high energy-efficiency.

Will new windows eliminate condensation?

Actually, no. Condensation is moisture vapor suspended in the air, and that's something no one can guarantee to eliminate. However, high-quality vinyl windows incorporating warm-edge technology glazing systems will help to reduce condensation because they're much less thermally conductive than other window types. They can help keep the temperature of the window warmer—minimizing the hot and cold differences that turn moisture into condensation.

Will the replacement windows be installed from the inside or outside?

The majority of our replacement windows are installed from the inside.

How can I prepare my house for my replacement windows?

Please take down curtains, blinds, or any other window treatments. Security sensors should also be removed and turned off by your security company. Please provide our installation expert with a clear path to the window(s) being replaced by moving anything that may be in the way. It is also advisable to remove all wall decorations from the walls close to the windows as they may fall during removal or installation. Ask for assistance, if needed.

What are the Top Factors to Consider in New Windows?

There are many reasons homeowners choose to get their windows replaced. Some are functional, others are aesthetic, and still others are some combination of the two. There is no right or wrong reason to do a window replacement in your home. Strictly speaking, anyone can justify the job for any reason. But, there are some pretty common reasons to think about if you're on the fence about the need for new windows.

For example -

  • Savings on Home Energy Bills
  • Improvement in the Home's Appearance
  • Increased Ventilation throughout the Home

How long will it take to install my new windows?

Will I need to pay more money when my job is being done, or when it's completed?
